Inspiration

 

The wisdom of Chinese culture were hidden beneath in our legacy, nonetheless “I Ching” is the most influential principle of divination. As one of the ingrained traits of our culture, we shall see how its concept and value could be performed in an innovative way, yet preserving the beauty and genuineness.

 

Project Background

 

Base on the research of “Made in Sino”, it revealed that several Chinese culture elements were wroth to be restored by using modern method to preserve these kinds of ancient tradition, such as Chinese food, logograms and traditional architectures. Despite these are indeed symbolic icons of representing Chinese, it does not perform the essence of Chinese culture well. The charisma of ours is mystic and unpredictable – we don't even possess the word “Logic” in our language. Our logic is intuition and imagination. Therefore, divination is the key element as in need of using modern method to preserve it.

 

Project Concept

 

“Vacilounge” is interactive lighting design via the forms of public lounges, whilst introducing the Chinese divination principles of “I Ching”. Motion detectors will trigger the lighting to catch user’s attention. Then, the user can also access the QR code beneath the light source for further information which will provide guidance for those sojourners in areas of airports, train station or hotel lobby.
